Ellen Russell Jacobson, MD
Dr. Ellen Jacobson, a West Nashville native, began her journey into medicine by volunteering during three summers in rural Latin America with the Amigos de las Americas program, providing vaccinations against childhood diseases and basic dental care. Her experience led to an interest in medicine which she pursued after graduating cum laude from the University of the South where she was awarded a B.S. degree with dual majors in Spanish and Biology.
In 1982 Dr. Jacobson enrolled in the University of Tennessee Center for Health Science in Memphis where she was awarded her M.D. degree in 1986. While in medical school, she diagnosed a family member with a malignant melanoma. This experience generated an interest in dermatology.
After two years at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Dr. Jacobson entered the Dermatology Residency Program at the University of Tennessee and became certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 1991.
Among her many interests, she identifies family and her children at the top of a long list that also includes dogs, friends, tennis, reading, traveling and her organic farm, Bells Bend.
Dr. Jacobson is very active professionally as well as in her community. She was selected to be a member on the Mayor's Green Ribbon Committee on Environmental Sustainability. She also is a member of the following local, state and national organizations:
