GENERAL
Scars
A scar is an area of fibrous tissue that replaces normal skin after an injury. Scars result from the biological process of wound repair in the skin, as well as in other organs and tissues of the body. Thus, scarring is a natural part of the healing process. Unfortunately, sometimes the body over-heals from an injury and a thickened scar can appear.
Treatments
- Two scar types that are commonly treated with intralesional steroid injections are keloids and hypertrophic scars. Both are raised, discolored scars that are the result of an overactive wound healing response.
- This treatment works mainly by decreasing collagen synthesis and reducing the inflammatory phase of wound healing.
- Usually required multiple injections, once monthly.
- Helps reduce scars in about 50% of cases.
- The Collagen P.I.N. Microneedling system is the perfect treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, brown pigmentation, acne scars, stretch marks, scars, and even hairloss.
- The hand-held, pen-like device induces a controlled injury into the skin which stimulates the production of growth factors, new collagen, elastin, and even hair.
- Depending on the degree of correction needed, 3-6 treatments are recommended, at monthly intervals.
